Hurricane Madeline was the final tropical cyclone of the 1998 Pacific hurricane season. Then-president Bill Clinton promised aid to the victims of the storm and then-governor George W. Bush took a tour of the devastated region with the Federal Emergency Management Agency director. Madeline ultimately peaked as a Category 4 major hurricane the next day. Despite favorable sea surface temperatures, the wind shear continued to take its toll on Madeline, and although a new burst of convection over the center flared,[10] the tropical storm continued to further deteriorate in structure.
