the gangster, the cop, the devil review

Like so many of the genre that hail from Seoul and its suburbs, this one punches well above its weight with an inventive reworking of well-worn plot tropes and slick production values. |

Must watch, 09/10/2019 (3) The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil (2019) 7.3/10. That's something I couldn't really relate. Highly recommended. I am a fan of the ganster now and watch all his movies. Ma Dong-Seok's performance was extraordinary and impressive. Forgot your password? Every Korean film I've seen where he's had a large role be action or comedy has been guaranteed entertainment.

They just always have such a good flavor and personality to them. Festival to go ahead as a physical event with guests including Thomas Vinterberg and Francois Ozon.

A deftly made crime film with the added bonus of Ma Dong-seok.

The film doesn't dig too deep, but works because it doesn't get lost in the some of the deeper trappings of the genre. | Rating: 3/5 [Full review in Spanish], "The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil" bubbles with a propulsive energy. Nothing special, but everything is good enough to enjoy it. I wished the film have focused more on his backstory or explored in depth with the character rather than giving all attention towards the gang rivalry.

Man, Korean serial killer movies are some of the best out there (check out THE CHASER and I SAW THE DEVIL if you don't believe me) and this is no exception. Although I must say as much as I adored the performances but didn't really like chemistry build up thing. Cinemark By creating an account, you agree to the Privacy Policy |, November 15, 2019 It's a slightly familiar story which means it lacks the edge of something truly classic like THE YELLOW SEA, but it still delivers the goods - and then some! |, May 29, 2020 Whenever I see a Korean movie, I'm always interested. It’s a matter of reputation, which is, in Jang’s ruthlessly dispassionate calculation, a matter of business: As much fun as it is to watch Lee beat people up and strut around in shiny pinstripe suits, it’s just as much of a pleasure to watch him think it all through.

|. It was similar to The Outlaws movie that offer more thriller, action & crime scenes. A highly polished thriller that capitalizes on its great premise. One of, if not THE BEST Korean film I've seen! Kim Moo-yul as the detective and Kim Sung-kyu playing the vicious serial killer are certainly notable in their respective roles, but the star of the show is Don Lee (aka Ma Dong-seok) who is becoming increasingly prolific at home, starring in scores of films - one of which was appropriately titled Unstoppable (2018). And while his physical presence is never less than imposing, Lee also has the best internal character arc to play: It’s not his physical injuries that drive Jang to avenge himself on the so-called “devil,” but the insupportable, destabilizing loss of face among his gangster peers that being the victim of a random stabbing will cue.

[Lee Won-Tae's] interpretation is flamboyant and highly stylised in places but never loses its edge. It's another winning formula in which a volatile, renegade young cop hooks up with his most feared foe, a ruthless gangster played by TRAIN TO BUSAN's Don Lee, in order to track down a sadistic serial killer. Really liked the leads here the cop and the gangster guy. As much fun as it is to watch Lee beat people up and strut around in shiny pinstripe suits, it's just as much of a pleasure to watch him think it all through. But who cares about all that when there are whole gangs of opponents through which Don Lee gets to bludgeon his way like a wrecking ball made of steak? This may have been a deliberate move, considering Don Lee (who plays gangster Jang Dong-soo) the bigger star. User Ratings

Lee delivers a thrilling crime actioner, bolstered by his eye for livening up the screen with pops of color, some brutal fight scenes, one very solid car chase, and another commanding performance from Ma Dong-seok. Actress Ra Mi-ran has taken quite the leap from supporting roles to leading roles of late. The story is beautiful and unusual and the time of the film is very suitable with the events of the story. Playing the criminal element of the title’s triptych Lee is a one-man weather system, so much so that he throws off the three-way balance a bit. Sidney Poitier’s 7 Most Memorable Performances, All Harry Potter Movies Ranked Worst to Best by Tomatometer, What attracts me immediately is that it combines the action thriller with the cop story in a new way and, incidentally, solidly handles the conventions of gangster cinema.

The imbalance isn’t helped by the rather old-hat characterization of “the cop,” Jung Tae-seok (Kim Moo-yeol), one of those incorruptible, brilliantly intuitive yet loose-cannon police detectives that already became parodic a couple of decades ago after Mel Gibson played the archetype into the ground.

All these points make this Korean movie to watchable. Crime, where criminals and police work together!

The technical sides were well executed too. As the name suggests, this nail-biting thriller narrates an ingenious 3-way slug fest amongst a tough-as-nails gangster, a righteous cop and a devilish serial killer. | As undemandingly entertaining as it can be, it’s highly unlikely you’ll remember too much about it by the time the remake rolls around.
