This is coming from a 16 year old who attends an academy school which ranges from the ages of 11-19. After watching this film, I'm still not sure if the title, Tormented, refers to the students of the featured High School, or the audience that had to sit through this film. Tormented is exactly how you'll feel as this film plays to the lowest common denominator, assuming that only ignorant people are going to watch it. This is a so called "slasher for the skins generation". The school "kids" are all clearly 24 which at least in American slasher films the students don't wear uniforms, but here they do and it just looks as if they are all going to a fancy dress party as the same theme, it's awful. Funny, scary and serious when it wants to be; "Tormented" isn't just a slasher for the Skins generation-it's a slasher for the proudly TEENAGE generation!! He's overweight, uses an inhaler and is constantly bullied by his spoiled classmates. Interestingly everybody can relate with a person that they know who your typical overweight kid looks like Darren Mullet. I did, however, feel it necessary to warn any would-be viewers. I never seem to be a fan of comedy horror, i do not think that it works very well mixing comedy with horror. Under-exploring the big reveal of the murderer and dragging the set plays out a little too long, Tormented's early promise fails to pull home. Films like this are low budget, and I understand they need a person of name in order to be recognized, but I've always felt that they should cast real teenagers, and give them a chance at breaking into the business, rather than have the roles played by actors that are pushing thirty!
And probably the first rule when making any sort of film is character sympathy...I didn't warm to any of the characters, apart from Justine(poor girl) so who cares if anything happens to them?
